How to ground after breathwork and Kundalini Activation: the real talk nobody gives you

Yesterday was our studio birthday.

We had a breathwork session as part of the celebration and people went so deep, so beautifully, profoundly deep, that when it came time to come back and celebrate, to laugh and eat sweets from the Ridiculous Bowl of 90s (yes we had it there :D) and be in the room with each other, it took real effort. The energy was still moving. The body was still processing. The mind was somewhere between here and somewhere else entirely.

That is not a failure of the practice. That is the practice working exactly as it should. But it showed me, again, something I have known for years and want to say clearly:

Going deep is only half of it. Coming back is the other half. And nobody talks about that enough.

What actually happens when you go deep

When you do breathwork or Kundalini Activation, you are not just having an experience. You are changing the state of your nervous system. Your brain enters frequencies it does not access in ordinary daily life. Energy that has been stored in the body begins to move. Old emotions surface. Patterns held in the tissue start to release.

This is extraordinary. This is also why you cannot just stand up, put your shoes on and go back to normal life as if nothing happened.

The nervous system needs time to integrate what just moved through it. The body needs to land. If you skip this part, if you rush back into stimulation and noise and doing, you take all that open, activated energy and you scatter it. You feel spacey for days. You feel irritable or tearful or disconnected without knowing why. You wonder if the session worked at all.

It worked. You just did not give it somewhere to land.

This is why grounding after breathwork and PRISM® Kundalini Activation is not optional. It is the completion of the work.

The two poles of grounding

Here is something I want to say that you will not find in most wellness content.

Grounding is not one thing.

The idea that grounding means a gentle walk in nature and a cup of herbal tea works for some people in some moments. For others it does nothing. For some the only thing that works is something so physical, so demanding, so intense that the mind simply has no room left to spin.

Both are valid. Both are grounding. The question is which one your body is asking for right now.

The gentle pole is about softness, connection and allowing the body to settle slowly. The intense pole is about density, physical demand and giving the nervous system something so real and immediate that everything else has to stop.

I am one of the people who sometimes needs to almost kill myself in the gym to truly feel my body heavy again. When my mind does not get a chance to think, when I have to roar from the strength, when I have to test my limits - that is how I come back into the now. That is my grounding. And it is just as valid as a walk in the forest.

Know which pole you are. Know which one you need. And stop apologising for it.

The strongest grounding tool is also the most obvious one

Before I give you the 12 ways I want to say something that might sound too simple.

The most powerful grounding tools are not the most sophisticated ones. They are the most basic. Sleep. Rest. Allowing yourself to simply be in your physical body without activating anything further. A walk. Stillness. These are not the consolation prizes of grounding. These are the foundation.

And nature is the number one tool of all.

This is not a poetic idea. It is something I know from years of practice and from watching what actually works in people's bodies. The strongest Kundalini energy, the strongest life force, is present in nature. It is the most direct and the most brilliant representation of this energy that exists. When you put yourself in nature after a session, you are literally placing yourself inside the thing that most closely mirrors what just moved through you. And it brings you back.

A walk in the forest. Feet on the earth. Hands touching bark or stone or water. Stepping into a lake or a river if you have access to one. Placing your feet in cold water if you do not. Sitting outside and feeling the wind. None of this requires equipment, a subscription or a special location. Nature is free, always available, and it works in every season. Winter grounding in nature hits differently than summer and both are extraordinary.

We spend so much energy looking for the unique, the advanced, the next tool. And meanwhile the most powerful thing is right outside the door.

Do not neglect the basics. Do not overcomplicate what is already whole. This is where we came from. This is our habitat. And it is always waiting.

12 ways to ground after breathwork and Kundalini Activation

1. Walk in nature

Not a power walk. A slow, present walk where you feel your feet on the ground, notice what is around you and let your senses do the work. If you can, take your shoes off and feel the earth directly. Speak to the trees if that is your thing. Let nature hold you for a while.

2. Intense physical movement

The gym, a run, lifting heavy things, anything that demands enough physical presence that your mind cannot wander. This works especially well when the energy feels too big or too electric in the body. Give it somewhere to go.

3. Cold water

A cold shower, a cold plunge, cold water on your face and wrists. And if you are in nature - feet in a river, stepping into a lake, standing in the sea. The cold brings you back into the body immediately and the natural water adds something a shower cannot. You are touching a living thing. The nervous system resets fast and the grounding goes deeper. If you do not have access to cold water outside, even a bowl of cool water for your feet at home works. The principle is the same: cold, water, now.

4. Eat something dense and real

Not a green juice. Something that asks your digestive system to work. Protein, root vegetables, something warm and heavy. Food is one of the oldest grounding tools there is. The body has to be in the body to digest.

5. Barefoot on the ground

Stand on grass, soil, sand or stone with no shoes. The electromagnetic connection between your body and the earth is real and it works fast. Even five minutes of this after a session changes everything.

6. Riding or driving fast

Adrenaline is grounding. The full presence required when your body is moving at speed, whether on a bike, in a car or on a horse, pulls you completely into the moment. Nothing else exists. That is ground. But take this one with care, your safety is the the most important aspect here.

7. Physical weight

Lie under a heavy blanket. Ask someone to press gently on your shoulders or feet. Feel the weight of your own body on the floor. Density is grounding. When the energy has been moving upward, weight brings it back down.

8. Slow exhale breathing

After activation the breath tends to be fast or shallow. Slow it down deliberately. Breathe in for four counts, out for eight. The long exhale activates the parasympathetic nervous system and tells the body it is safe to land. Do this for five minutes and feel the difference.

9. Low frequency sound

Drumming, bass-heavy music, Tibetan singing bowls, anything that vibrates in the chest and belly rather than the head. Sound at low frequencies is deeply grounding. It pulls energy downward and anchors it in the body.

10. Human touch

A hug. A hand on your back. Someone sitting close to you. Human contact is one of the most immediate grounding tools available because it reminds the nervous system that you are embodied, that you are here, that there is a physical world to return to. Do not underestimate this one.

11. Journaling

Write what happened. Write what you felt. Write what came up. But here is the important thing: do this after you already feel safe in your body, not as a replacement for the physical grounding that needs to happen first. Journaling processes the experience through the mind. The body needs to land before the mind can do its work.

12. Stillness with eyes open

Not meditation. Not closing your eyes and going deeper. Just sitting, eyes open, seeing what is actually in front of you. The chair. The wall. The cup of tea. The window. Name things if it helps. You are here. This is real. This is now. Stay.

A word about safety

If you consistently feel ungrounded for days after a breathwork or Kundalini Activation session, that is information worth paying attention to. It does not mean the work is wrong for you. It means your container needs strengthening. Your grounding practices need to become a regular part of your life, not just something you do after a session.

This is why in PRISM® we always close with integration. The opening is one half of the work. The landing is the other.

If you want to explore what grounding looks like in practice, and how to build a nervous system that can hold what opens in this work, you are welcome in our sessions. You can find everything at https://www.natalialuvyourself.com/events/in-person
